Acme at the AACT 2005 Festival

2004 EMACT Festival Winner - Lonely Planet

Jody runs a map store, and stays in his store all the time to avoid the outside world. His friend Carl brings chairs representing deceased friends into Jody's store and leaves them there. When Jody needs to take an AIDS test, Carl has to convince him that it is not only okay to leave the store but also that he must take responsibility for his life. A drama about friendship and the fragility of life.

WINNER
2004 EMACT Community Theatre Festival
2004 NE Regional Community Theatre Festival

As the world celebrated the 2004 Olympics in Athens, much closer to home, Maynard's own community theater Acme Theater brought home the proverbial Gold from the 2004 New England Regional Theatre Festival (NERF), held July 30-August 1, 2004 at Saint Anselm College's Dana Center. Acme's production of Stephen Dietz' Lonely Planet was awarded Best Production for all of New England, as well as bringing Best Acting Awards for its two actors, Tom Berry (of Lynn) and David Fisher (of Waltham); Best Director (Dave Sheppard of Maynard); Best Stage Manager John Murtagh (of Waltham); Best Set Design Tito Juarez (of Maynard); and Best Costume Design Gregg Thomas (of Maynard).

To get to the Regional level of competition, Acme's production of Lonely Planet was awarded the Best Production honor at the Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theatres Festival held Memorial Day weekend. This is second time Acme has won top honors in New England in the last 6 years and Dave Sheppard's third best Director award at the Regional level.

Visit the AACT website for more information. This win not only ranks Acme as one of the Top 10 Community Theatre groups in the nation, but it also gets them one step higher in the community theatre festival circuit. This regional competition is the precursor to the national festival, being held in Kalamazoo, Michigan in June of 2005 where Acme will represent all of New England.
