THE STORY

George is a man who is consumed with preserving and documenting the dying languages of far-flung cultures. Closer to home, though, language is failing him. Though he holds himself as a language expert, George simply does not have  the right words to save his marriage. Mary, George’s wife, understands emotions intrinsically, but cannot find the means to explain to George what she needs, from both him and from life. Meanwhile, the unsure but devoted Emma, George’s colleague and lab assistant, cannot find a way to simply tell George that she loves him. Into this world of struggling lost souls, walks an old married couple from a remote village. A husband and wife who are the last two native speakers of an all-but-forgotten language.  This couple brings the wisdom and the knowledge of how to truly express love. Helping the other three to know what is truly important in each of their own hearts.

In Julia Cho’s The Language Archive, we are treated to a poetic, quirky, and tender world. A world, very much like our own, where even when people do share a common language, their true purpose is often lost as each person speaks their own unique dialect when it comes to the language of love.
